Richland Town Park

Town of Richland

The town of Richland was laid out in 1861 and was so named because of its fertile soil. Oddly, Richland’s first post office was established under the name “Lake” in 1862, but was renamed Richland in 1921. The Marylee Vogel branch of the Spencer County Library system can be found here.

Santa Claus Town Park (Jim Yellig Park)

Town of Santa Claus

The little town of Santa Claus was originally called Santa Fee. Since there was already a Santa Fe in Indiana, the government would not allow a post office with a name so similar. Legend has it that in 1856 at a town meeting, a child suggested they change the name to Santa Claus, and the rest is history! The town is the proud host of Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, and most of its residents live in Christmas Lake Village, a well-kept gated community.
